Highly-rated French defender Raphael Varane signed for Spanish giants Real Madrid from French Second Division side Lens.
The 18-year-old defender, who has played just 23 Ligue 1 matches in a season that saw Lens relegated - signed a six year contract with Real Madrid after passing his medical, the club announced.
"Real Madrid and Lens have reached agreement over the transfer of the French player Raphael Varane, who will wear the Real shirt for the next six seasons," Real said in a statement.
