Arsenal have had a loan bid rejected for Real Madrid midfielder Kaka.
Manager Arsene Wenger tried to act quickly to appease fans in the wake of Samir Nasri’s move to Manchester City, which followed Cesc Fabregas’s switch to Barcelona.
But his bid for the Brazilian former World Player of the Year on a season-long loan was dismissed.
Signing Kaka, 29, would be a statement of intent by Wenger, although the Frenchman would be loath to spend so much on a player with little resale value.
Kaka is settled in Madrid but featured just 20 times for Real last season.
The Gunners are desperately in need of reinforcement in midfield following the departures of Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri within two weeks.
